Derek Kidner (1913-2008)
I've heard confirmation that OT scholar Derek Kidner has gone to be with the Lord. The memorial service was held last Friday. Kidner, an ordained Anglican priest, held the following positions:
Curate of St. Nicholas, Sevenoaks (1941-1947)
Vicar of Felsted (1947-1951)
Senior Tutor at Oak Hill Theological College (1951-1964)
Warden of Tyndale House in Cambridge (1964-1978)
He was known for his engaging, insightful, and accessible work on the Old Testament. The following is surely a selective list, but here are his main commentaries on the OT (all published by IVP):
Bible Speaks Today
The Message of Jeremiah: Against Wind and Tide
The Message of Ecclesiastes
The Message of Hosea: Love to the Loveless
Tyndale Old Testament Commentaries
Genesis
Ezra and Nehemiah
Psalms 1-72
Psalms 73-150
Proverbs
Also: The Wisdom of Proverbs, Job and Ecclesiastes: An Introduction to Wisdom Literature .
The Church has lost a great servant. All of his work is well worth having in your library.
