Reconciliation, Total Church, Kelleman, BBC, Church's Min, etc.

Next week will be a very special week in the history of our nation. Monday is Martin Luther King Day, and that will be followed by the Inauguration of Barak Obama as President of the United States of America next Tuesday (1/20). It will certainly be a special moment in the history of our nation. And if you are at any level familiar with the plight of the African American people (and you’d have to be a complete moron or have lived under a rock all your life not to be), you cannot underestimate the magnitude and significance next Tuesday will be in the history of our nation.

I think it is truly fitting that President elect Obama, who has said that Abraham Lincoln is the former President he most admires, will be sworn into office the day after we celebrate the life and accomplishments of former Baptist Pastor and Civil Rights Movement Leader, Dr. Martin Luther King.

In conjunction with all this, our leadership here at Baptist Bible College has taken a long overdue step in joining the rest of our nation in recognizing and commemorating the significance of Dr. King, and the events of next week.

During the week, our Chapel services will focus on the theme of Reconciliation, and this will be highlighted by our speaker on Wednesday and Thursday, Dr. Robert Kelleman. Bob is a BBC Alumnus, and is recognized as a leader in our country of a movement to promote Racial Reconciliation in the church. You can learn more of his ministry at his webpage: RPM , and his blog: Changeless Truth for Changing Times.

In conjunction with these events, I will focus my posts next week to issues related to the above. In the meantime, to begin to prepare our hearts, look up and read, and study, and meditate on, Philippians 2:1-11 (scroll over the reference to read it here).

I hope you’ll join me.

Also, unrelated to any of the above, for those of you in Church’s Ministry, I forgot to include our course text “Total Church” in the syllabus. Do make sure you purchase it soon, as we will have an assignment connected to it next week. In the meantime, the video below is of one of the co-authors, Tim Chester, introducing us to the core concepts of the book. You can also learn more of their ministry at: Total Church Bootcamp and their Blog.
