Top Blogs - Christ is Deeper Still

Top Tier # 2 . . .

Today I offer my second blog rating on my top tier of blogs, and it is called: Christ is Deeper Still. Blogging, of course, can be used for any creative means the mind can conceive. One great way Pastors may use them is to add another level of personal contact and spiritual input to their people, and that is what Pastor Ray Ortlund of Immanuel Church, Nashville, Tennessee, has done.

Pastor Ortlund’s style is unique in that rarely are his regular posts for more than a paragraph, but those short paragraphs usually pack a solid spiritual punch. And, I find in Ortlund a kindred spirit as he often includes YouTube music videos just because he likes the song or group, and many days he will have something there just to make you smile. Where else would you in two days time find a quote by CS Lewis, John Calvin, then followed by a music video of the 60-70s hard rock band, Quicksilver?

Here is my rating of Christ is Deeper Still based on my own subjective criteria and my 3 Star rating system. . .

Content – Clearly the direction of the content of CISS is for spiritual formation, and Ortlund, like the “mailman” Karl Malone, always delivers. Rating: 3 Stars - Excellent, always good stuff.

Informative – Always fresh, and for the most part truly “deeper,” but Pastor Ortlund also has a sense of humor. Rating: 3 Stars - Excellent, always good stuff.

Current Everyday, sometime more. Rating: 3 Stars - Excellent, always good stuff.

Interesting – Yes, and often entertaining: Rating: 3 Stars - Excellent, always good stuff.

Creative – He includes a nice variety of insights from across the spectrum of the evangelical world, and often reaches back to borrow from the spiritual legacy of some of the great saints of the church. Rating: 3 Stars - Excellent, always good stuff.

Relevant – Does it regularly have it? Yes! Rating: 3 Stars - Excellent, always good stuff.

Appeal – It is a pleasing layout, nothing spectacular but it serves the purpose. It kind of just give you the feel of a Hallmark note card in the mail with an encouraging note from your Pastor. (Interestingly, he does not link anyone else or any other ministry sites; I like the cleanness of that.) Rating: 3 Stars - Excellent, always good stuff.

The score, perfect: 21 out of 21. Really, there is nothing not to like about this site. I strongly encourage you to follow it; you’ll be blessed if you do.

Blessings
