Weekend Update . . .

FYI ….. (5/2)

The softball season is over, and although we didn’t finish where we wanted to, a few of our players received some end-of the-season awards from our conference: Freshman, Stephanie Kreiser (“Freshie Stephie” as her teammates call her), was name “Rookie of the Year” and was selected as the First Team All-Conference Shortstop, and Junior Pitcher Renee Korb was honored as the team Sportsmanship Award recipient by the conference. You can read the CSAC Conference article here, and the BBC Softball page article here.

Rob Bell, getting it all wrong: Rob Bell on the Gospel in a CT Today Article. More and more, he never fails to disappoint.

Shaper Iron has started a new series called: What is Worship.

9Marks Journal has just released a lengthy volume on Multi-Site Ministry, excellent stuff.

The Unlikely Disciple (From Ben Worthington) …. Meet Kevin Roose. He looks like your average nice college dude, and he is sitting in the pews in the chapel at Brown University. You may not have known Brown has a chapel, what with it being a bastion of liberalism, but it does. There is an interesting news piece about this young man who is a student at Brown but decided to go "behind enemy lines" and spy on the domain of Jerry Falwell for a semester, and write a story about his experience. Here is the link you should paste into your browser.” Read the entire piece from Worthington here >>

From Christian in Context: Bonhoeffer of Spiritual Love. “In the community of Christ, we see others only in the light of the gospel, and thus are empowered to love in costly and cross-shaped ways.”

Mark Driscoll on what is a Missional Church?

Tim Keller quotes. For example, on the Bible: “The Bible’s purpose is not so much to show you how to live a good life. The Bible’s purpose is to show you how God’s grace breaks into your life against your will and saves you from the sin and brokenness otherwise you would never be able to overcome… religion is ‘if you obey, then you will be accepted’. But the Gospel is, ‘if you are absolutely accepted, and sure you’re accepted, only then will you ever begin to obey’. Those are two utterly different things. Every page of the Bible shows the difference.”

Very Interesting: The Rise of the Ironic Class (From Relevant Magazine).
