22 He who finds a wife finds what is good
and receives favor from the LORD.

This directly applies to all those who have found a wife. Even it trouble times having a wife is good. We have a friend all the time, a lover all the time, and one who will stick by us all the time. It is sad to say that this is not always true, but with a good relationship it can be. It is also good to know that if this is true of us, then we also have found favor from the Lord.

I am so thankful for this reminder this morning. I am thankful that I have a safe place to run knowing there is SOMONE who will protect and guide.

13 He who answers before listening—that is his folly and his shame.

These is a heavey reminder to me, I every now and again speak before the whole matter has been expalined to me. This here makes me a fool and need to learn to listen more before I speak.

Pro 18:13 He that answereth a matter before he heareth it, it is folly and shame unto him.

This person is anxious and presumes that they know what you are going to say before giving you a chance to speak. It reminds me of James 1:19 which we should exercise.-Let us be swift to hear, slow to speak and slow to anger.

v.6 A fools lips walk into a fight, and his mouth invites a beating.

This chapter talks a lot about the mouth and how it will "ruin" the fool. it tells us later in v. 21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue. Makes you think twice if you think of this before you say something.

12 Before his downfall a man's heart is proud, but humility comes before honor.

pride is the downfall of a man. pride can only bring disappointment, but the humble will see their expectations exceeded. sometimes i am prideful about the knowledge i have. how foolish. that also is often accompanied by someone "reminding" me that i don't know it all. a mini downfall to help me avoid the "crash and burn" downfall. i see the grace in that...

12 Before destruction a man's heart is haughty, but humility comes before honor.

Humility has got to be the number in issue. its something you can never be to full of, but its hard to be full of, sometimes. Its so much easier to hear God with a humble heart.

13. He who answers before listening - that is his folly and his shame.

I once saw a quote on someone's refrigerator which said "are you listening or are you waiting to speak?" I think this quote clearly illustrates what this verse is saying. People love to hear themselves talk, but they must remember that listening is part of sanctification as it puts the interests of others for yourself.

vs 2. "a fool takes no pleasure in understanding, but only expresses his opinion"

one ministry principle that i have been taught is that it is more important to understand than to be understood. this verse couldn't align any better with this principle. to often we will jump to speaking before we actually have come understanding what the other person is talking about.

17 The first to present his case seems right,
till another comes forward and questions him.

Oh how I fall victim to this! Many MANY times I will listen to a debate and side with the person for one reason of another. Then the opposite points are made and I find myself feeling... I can't really come up with word, humbled, humiliated, scorned? It reminds me of the movie "chicken little" From Disney. Pig says to Chicken Little "I'm a gutless flip-flopper" I can so relate sometimes.
