9 Then you will understand what is
right and just and fair—every good path.
10 For wisdom will enter your heart,
and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul.
11 Discretion will protect you,
and understanding will guard you.

Prov 2:4 and if you look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure,5 then you will understand the fear of the Lord
If you will search earnestly(like you would for a job)looking, digging as if for a valuable treasure your will see the fear of the Lord

Good thought Cynthia; indeed, we don't get wisdom just by wishing it will happen or come to us. It takes Godly work and pursuit on our part (see Job 28). Thanks for this reminder.

Would anyone like to suggest just how we should go about "Godly work and pursuit" of wisdom?

Chapter 2 happens to be one of my favorite chapters in Proverbs for a number of reasons. 1. It's easy to understand...it's an "if...then" statement throughout the chapter. If you "receive my sayings", "treasure my commands" "attentive to wisdom", "cry for discernment", "life your voice for understand", "seek and search for her as hidden treasure" THEN...and he lists a number of things that God will give you along with wisdom. The 2nd reason I like this chapter is because it's so clear of the benefits that it will bring you: 1. deliverance from evil men 2. keep you from the arms of the adultress and 3. preserves your life and character.
I know that was not just 1 or 2 verses that I liked, but because it's one of my favorite chapters, I struggled picking out one thing!!

Proverbs 2
Without the Lord we would have no Wisdom and the benefits of Wisdom out measure the non sense of the wicked.
The fear of the Lord will ultimately protect us from ourselves. Without the fear of the Lord we will surely would sin and our paths will be crooked.

and find the knowledge of God.
The author had been speaking about searching and how hard you so search. Understanding the fear of the Lord does not come without perseverance. It takes effort and work.Just like Cynthia said, like you would for a job. you can find this wisdom by earnestly seeking Christ with all your heart!

These passages are some of the ones where you need to realise that proverbs are not to be taken as true all the time. Reading these one would think as true Christians we should be living the life of easy street. We know from reading other sections of the bible that that is not true.

I have been really convicted with the fact that procrastinate on developing godly habits. So often I assume that I will be a woman of God by the time I am my mom's age, and I forget that I must search for wisdom as if it is a great treasure to be found. Wisdom will not come unless I am wholeheartedly seeking it.

This passage just really makes you think about really doing your part to attain wisdom. Its not only our job to listen and agree with the Lord's commandments but we must make a serious personal effort to search after it ourselves. Wisdom will protect you from going down the wrong path.

The Proverb compares searching for wisdom to that of searching for treasure. This really stood out to me becuase we need to really be excited to search for it! It is something very precious I think alot of times I don't view seeking after God as important as I should or having the right attitude.

I was comforted all day by this verse as some difficult situations in life have left me clueless and afraid.. "He holds victory in store for the upright..."

3 and if you call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding, 4 and if you look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure, 5 then you will understand the fear of the LORD and find the knowledge of God.
i find it refreshing that in signing up for this class i was preparing myself for making the journey toward searching out the path of wisdom and the second chapter of the book reminds me of a theme throughout scripture. when looking for wisdom, ask God for it. i understand that there is a role that we play in this whole thing but it starts here. as the next verse says, "For the LORD gives wisdom".

IF, IF, IF, IF, IF...

These things are conditional.

Then you will....

This is the result.

For God is...

This is why we do it.

When you dont...

The result of not doing it.

This is reason enough for me to not do dumb things. Yet in my sin nature i still do. I am not wise.
