16 There are six things that the Lord hates,
even that are an abomination to him:
17 haughty eyes, a lying tongue,
and hands that shed innocent blood,
18 a heart that devises wicked plans,
feet that make haste to run to evil,
19 a false witness who breathes out lies,
and one who sows discord among brothers

Proverbs 6:23
For these commands are a lamp, this teaching is a light, and the corrections of discipline are the way to life,
Without a lamp that sheds light on darkness we would not be able to see where we are going. We need the commands and teaching for us to follow the righteous path. Without them we will follow the dark path.
"how long will you lie there you sluggard? When will you get up from your sleep?"
Even though it's summer, I've got to take this time to store up spiritual strength for the year to come. This isn't the time to let everything slack, this is the time to prepare for what I don't know is around the corner.
I loved verses 27-28 because they both show the guaranteed outcome of an event and then compared it to the act of committing adultery in verse 29. This stood out to me because it was easy to imagine the consequences of 27 and 28 and then change to show that its a guarantee that there will be a punishment for someone who commits this act.
10 A little sleep, a little slumber,
a little folding of the hands to rest-
11 and poverty will come on you like a bandit
and scarcity like an armed man.
How often do we look at our bills and think "how did that bill get so large?!" You really need to take proactive steps in finances!
The ant/sluggard passage is always highly convicting to me --especially in the summer time when I see how much time I waste compared to during the school year. It is truly incredible that an ant would work so hard to collect food for the winter without any overseer. Now that I am in charge of my own time, I find that I spend it on facebook or internet instead of using my time wisely so that I can relax later.
ro 6:6 Lazy people should learn a lesson from the way ants live.
Pro 6:7 They have no leader, chief, or ruler,
Pro 6:8 but they store up their food during the summer, getting ready for winter.
Ants don't need a boss to get them going and they store up food for the future. They are amazing. They also carry 7x their weight. Cool!
Vs. 22-When you walk, they [4] will lead you;o when you lie down, they will keep watch over you;and when you awake, they will talk with you.
The father is telling the son to not forget his father's instructions and his mother's teachings and then goes on to tell the son why. This is so good because wisdom does affect every area of your life and it should be that important to us as Christians-they should consume our lives.
vs. 20-22 "My son, observe the commandment of your father, and do not forsake the teaching of your mother; Bind them continually on your heart; tie them around your neck. WHen you walk about, they will guide you' when you sleep they will watch over you; and when you awake they will talk to you."
We see the phrase time and time again in Proverbs "My son, observe the commandment of your father..." How important is it that I teach my children to walk in wisdom because as the next few verses say, that is what will guide you and help you make right decisions and comfort and protect.
22"When you lie down , they will watch over you"
This encourages and assures you of the peace and confidence there is in serving God as talked about in chapter 3 as well
Proverbs 6:27 said that can a person carry hot coals and not have his clothes burned. This was a really good picture that things effect us and leave an impression. You can't carry coals and not be effected.
ACTION!
Take action to get away from sin. Its not talking about being lazy during the summer. Or having bills to pay. Verses 2 and 3 hit on that. If you have been traped by what you said, let no sleep to your eyes. Take ACTION against sin.
