Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise, but the companion of fools will suffer harm. It is very important who we hang out with and spend time with. Our friends can greatly influence us. Being a friend with the fool can not only effect you but in the verse it warns of potential harm.
Proverbs 13:24 He who spares the rod hates his son, but he who loves him is careful to discipline him.
This Proverb teaches the truth about discipline. If we discipline our children they will grow up to be good and righteous. If we don't they will grow up and be wicked. The word hate strikes me, because no really hates children. If we don't discipline, they may go to the grave and not have eternal life. We must teach them to fear the Lord.
Vs. 18- Poverty and disgrace come to him who ignores instruction, but whoever heeds reproof is honored. This verse is a good reminder to me that I need to open to correction in my life (this verse is just echoing what is already being said in Proverbs). I may not see the benefits of honoring Christ now here on earth, but I will in see the benefits of it in heaven.
Verse 10 states Pride only breeds quarrels, but wisdom is found in those who take advice.
This is so true. Even with small things. People do not agree and they fight trying to prove their point but a wise person listens to the other side of the arguement which allows the person to be able to learn more about life.
2 From the fruit of his lips a man enjoys good things, but the unfaithful have a craving for violence.
the second part of this verse is what caught my attention. the unfaithful actually desires destructive things. not only that but they crave it. that is interesting to me when considering a conversation i had with a professor about the idea that even people in eternal torment show no sign of a desire for a relationship with Christ. these people crave destruction so much that even hell will not make them regret the person they were on earth.
Whoever spares the rod hates his son,but he who loves him is diligent to discipline him. This verse surprised me a little. I i have to punish my child i will but i'd hate to do it and probably let it go easy sometimes. But here he says that the man that doesnt punish his son hates him. Granted this probably captures a man that never diciplines his son. Either way, this reminds me of my relationship with God the father. He loves us enough to correct us in our wrong doing.

Many of the beginning chapters of Proverbs exhorts the son to listen to the words spoken, this is the first chapter I've noticed where there is that kind of reminder in the "one-liner" chapters
11 Dishonest money dwindles away, but he who gathers money little by little makes it grow.
How true is that! When people get a large sum of money they don't appreciate it, but people who work for it little by little respect it.

Yet another reminder why we must avoid the "fools" of this world
7 One man pretends to be rich, yet has nothing; another pretends to be poor, yet has great wealth.
This Proverb stuck out to me. I question wheather or not it is talking about discression or humility. Probably both. It can apply to this economy very easily because we have all pretended to be rich and look at our debt. Yet those who have lived a poor lifestyle are the ones who can pay in cash. Interesting!
Proverbs 13:3 He who guard his mouth preserves his life...Over the past few monthis i have been learing the keys to communication. I have been learning it is not what you say in response but how you say or it is better to just allow ther person to speak and not say a word. This is very hard for me as i like to talk.
v.25 The righteous has enough to satisfy his appetite, but the belly of the wicked suffers want.
There is only temporary satisfaction found in the things on this earth, but there are eternal satisfactions for the righteous in heaven. This is seen played everyday the sin in this world develops an addiction because it keeps you coming back for more and more.
