A Good Name

The medals in the picture to the left are medals of honor. These medals are given to soldiers who have gone above and beyond the normal expectations of their duties. They did not do what they did to receive a medal, they did it because it was the right thing to do. That is what character means, does. And with character, comes a "good name."

For the soldier, these medals represent their achievements, their heroic acts. For the believer, heroism comes from people of consistent character, people who earn a "good name" by faithfully pursuing, applying and living in wisdom.

Proverbs 22:1 reminds of this . . .

"A good name is more desirable than great riches;
to be esteemed is better than silver or gold."
