A Pig's Snout

Absurdity is a common teaching tool in the Proverbs, and in chapter 11 we find one of the more famous ones: "a ring in a pig's snout."

Proverbs 11:22 ~ Like a gold ring in a pig's snout
is a beautiful woman who shows no discretion.

Ha, we all tend to think of one of "those kind of girls" when we read this verse; but I wonder, is he trying to say something to us "good folks" who have been given the beautiful, priceless, grace of God, and yet live wallowing around in the mud of this world?

Or, maybe more fitting to the context, is the illustration of a valuable jewel in a pig's nose like the absurdity of giving wisdom to a fool who could care less about living for God?

Either way, it's a vivid picture with a pointed message.
