make plans by seeking advice...

Godly counsel is proving to be one of the most important resources in my life. While reading the Word and prayer is vital, the counsel and advice of godly people is also a huge encouragement.

Proverbs 20:12
Ears that hear and eyes that see- the Lord has made them both.

This kind of goes along with our lecture this week. I believe that we can add to this Proverb. How about, Ears that hear and eyes that see (a mouth that speaks)- the Lord has made them. This would fit into our lecture a little better.

Evil should not be repayed with evil. Not only by actions but by words as well. Talking about our speech this week alot of times when our speech gets out of control is when someone says/does something to us that we don't like.

Who can say, “I have made my heart pure; I am clean from my sin”?

I am glad Christ can say that, for with out that truth we all would be very foolish people. I am also glad that I do nothing for my salvation it is all the work of Christ, because if I had to work for it some how I know I would fail.

Vs. 21- An inheritance gained hastily in the beginning will not be blessed in the end.
I'm not sure if the verse is talking about a physical inheritance or spirtual; however, it goes to show that something that is worth that much is worth the wait. If you did not earn that inheritance, than it would go to waste in the beginning because it does not have the same value as something that has been earned!

Proverbs 20:27
The lamp of the LORD
searches the spirit of a man
it searches out his inmost being.

Psalm 119:105
Your word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.

When I read this Proverbs verse I instantly thought of the verse in Psalms. It is simply a comforting thought that the same lamp that gives us guidance also searches our hearts. It is like two sides of the same coin. One half of the coin is guidance the other half searches the inner man. It stood out and comforted me.

9 who can say "I have made my heart pure; I am clean from my sin"?

This verse reminds me of 1 John 1:8-9 and the thought that although it is still not me doing it, I can say that I have no sin because the blood of Christ has cleansed me from it. I am still as helpless as the author and readers of Proverbs but through Christ I have been Justified.

17. Food gained by fraud tastes sweet to a man, but he ends up with a mouth full of gravel.

What an interesting and true word picture! I can remember so many times that I have sinned because it seemed appealing and fun, but the remorse afterwords made the sin not worth it.

4 A sluggard does not plow in season; so at harvest time he looks but finds nothing.

funny thing about the sluggard, he still looks for results. he plants nothing, but looks to see if something grew. not only does he looks, he kind of expects some result and is bothered when he finds nothing. this may seem redundant, but.... how foolish.

Proverbs 20:3 It is an honor for a man to keep aloof from strife, but every fool will be quarreling.

22 Do not say, “I will repay evil”; wait for the Lord, and he will deliver you.

It takes guts to remain humble, but God has got our backs. Plus, it takes so much more heart to love those who spit in your face, and yet to endur that is to gain honor. Amen to that.

Make plans by seeking advice; if you wage war, obtain guidance.

Seeking advice is something that is very important. This shows that we are not supposed to go through life by ourselves but to have people be part of our lives so we are able to help each other live lives for God.
