Super Bowl - Overrated ???

And this from CJ Mahaney on the Super Bowl . . .

Thoughts on Super Bowl XLIV

Given my love for sports I have an obligation to publish a public service announcement to prepare you for the impending Super Bowl…

O-V-E-R-R-A-T-E-D

The Super Bowl is the most overrated sporting event in the history of all sports, dating back to the very first Olympics. The NFL thinks so highly of itself, the Super Bowl is assigned Roman numerals.

Yet despite the hype, year after year this game rarely delivers. With few exceptions, most of these games are neither exciting nor memorable (unless your team is participating). With Peyton Manning and Drew Brees in the Super Bowl, there is at least a chance that Super Bowl 44 will be entertaining, but I doubt it.

You might find the following blogs of interest about C.J. Mahaney and the group he leads, Sovereign Grace Ministries:

www.sgmsurvivors.com
www.sgmrefuge.com

They tell another side. Hope this helps.

Interesting Steve. I'm a complete outsider of SGM, and I admit I enjoyed, and been blessed, by many of their materials (sermons, books, blogs, etc.). Yet there have always been aspects of it that raised red flags for me. But, as an outsider, I would/can keep those questionable things at arms length, and take the good -- at least what I considered good -- and leave the rest. Yet, these sites do raise questions, and in an odd way affirm my hunches. Thanks for the links, I will put them on my "keep an I on" list. One Question: what is PDI ???

thanks

"PDI" stand for People of Destiny International which was the name the group used until it changed its name to Sovereign Grace Ministries. One source said it made the name change in 1998 and that was after one of the cofounders of the group, Larry Tomczak, left.

I am sure if you aren't in one of their churches then you will do fine. Most of the problems reported on these blogs are about what happened to people in the group though some of what Mahaney says (and is unquestioned inside SGM) is certainly baffling.
